Tonight we had potatoes from our plot for the first time. In fact, everything we ate save the chicken I roasted and some lemon I squeezed on it, was out of the garden. Here was today’s harvest:
I roasted the potatoes with lemon thyme, rosemary, olive oil and salt and pepper. The chicken was stuffed with lemon rinds, lemon thyme, and rubbed with olive oil, salt, pepper, lemon juice and crushed garlic. The squash, as usual, was sauted with onion. We are going to eat a blackberry crumble in a little bit, too.

Honestly, the potatoes were as much a revelation compared to store bought as tomatoes grown at home are. When I told Ryan there was no butter on them, he had a hard time believing me.
Our food has been so amazing of late, I can hardly believe it’s real sometimes. Amazing. Truly.

YUM. I am SO HUNGRY now!!! I’m jealous of your longer warm season. No one here has zucchini yet! Plus I haven’t had a chance to even get the potatoes in the ground yet… sigh. But we will have a great fall harvest! ; ) Beautiful onions!
ahem. After wiping the drool from the corner of my mouth, I would like to sign myself up for some of the extra squash everything I read about farmers tells me you are going to have. 😉 You know, if it’s not already promised to someone else.
I am so jealous/in awe of how well your gardening is going. You’d think it was blessed by God and your mom or something. 😉 It’s all just awesome.
For years I planted everything BUT potatoes as my garden space was very limited. How much better can a fresh organic potato taste than a store bought ?
SOOO much better I discovered when I finally had enough garden to allow them some room . Now I plant potatoes in every little spot in the garden I can fit them in. My favourite totally enviromentaly unfriendly way to cook them is in foil with butter and onion soup mix , toasted on the BBQ until soft. Potato candy!
